Well, Nick took off for Seattle for a week. There was a bit in the paper about a fire in Seattle, just before he came back, that was unusual in that there appeared to be no accelerante and was freaky because there wasn't more property damage. There was also the bit about two masked figures fleeing the area... I can't see Nick, uhh, getting all decked out in ninja gear. But, I can see him sitting off in a car somewhere and playing firebug from a distance. He likes playing with fire. I've noticed the odd fire-spirit kicking around his place, which is a little unexpected... Since I've never seen him burning large piles or brush and the like, which is what would normally attract the critters. Maybe my Magic Fire-Bug of a friend attracts them all on his own? Interesting idea there.
Thinking about it more, I wouldn't be surprised if Nick was involved it that. Even if I have no idea why he's be setting things on fire. He's usually a bit more subtle. He wouldn't tell me crap all before he left. Only saying that he was dealing with personal stuff. Mage stuff obviously. For fucks sake Nick. Why won't you just tell me these things? What the hell are you afraid off? I'm going to tell other Corax that there are Mages in Seattle? That's no fucking secret. Just uggh.
I'm also kinda certain that I've caught him changing subjects when I show up on at least one occasion. Maybe two and /not/ when he's talking to another Mage. What isn't he telling me, that he is telling others? I can /mostly/ understand him being worried about saying stuff that might come back to hurt another Mage... Not that I can think of anything he could really tell me, that'd teach me any secrets that I'd have to share with other Corax. Aside from ya know, nitty gritty details. Names. Specific addresses. Knowing about the Spheres and all the rest of it, I can make pretty good guesses as to what a Mage can potentially do - which amounts to just about fucking everything. All depends on the Mage and what their focus is.
Corax - we're not dumb. We know enough to treat all Mages as if they could kill you with a thought. There are enough stories out there. If they're not causing any harm, just note where they are and keep tabs on them from a distance. Particularly if they are doing a good thing! Like keeping a Glade free of corruption. Could find the location of a few Mages, if I really wanted too. Just have to know who to talk too...
Caution is the name of the game and if you have to deal with one (Crazy, Tainted, or messing with things they shouldn't and not backing off when given sufficient warning) in a permanent manner. Tell a fuzzy about them, or put lots bullets in them from at least a half-mile away, all while dropping something big on their heads. Or, ya know, something a bit trickier. Main thing is too keep your distance and don't let them know you're coming. Blow out a Mage's brains and they'll die .... Same as a Buzzard, as Riley demonstrated recently. Nothing I've learned from Nick really changes how we'd deal with a Mage causing trouble... So I just don't see his problem. :(
So, while Nick was off in Seattle, Doodle and Charlene found his little rock-pile. Fuuuuuck. And Doodle asked me about the rocks, after Nick made a fucking UMBRAL STORM around his place. Playing with Forces or I'm a plucked chicken. Storms happen. I had noticed it and asked Nokivaris if Old Thunder was involved, out of curiosity. Nope. Didn't think anything of it at the time. I told Doodle that the rocks weren't a issue and I knew that they weren't a sign of anything dangerous too the Sept. Doodle wasn't willing just to take my word for it. Bah-Humbug. Also, Charlene told Jacinta about the stacked rocks and now she knows that Nick is a Mage? At least she seems to be willing to accept that he might not be a danger too the Sept. Mouse vouching for him probably has a lot to do with that. Still, he is being careful and has moved in with the Walkers.
I just can't see how finding some stacked rocks in the Umbra led to Jacinta figuring out that Nick is a Mage. There is something that I'm not being told here. >:(
I'm getting more than a little tired of being left out of the loop.
I looked after LOLcat while Nick was out of town. Think I might be actually be starting to like that cat. Just a little. I've looked after it often enough. Even if I was tempted to introduce it to the 'kids' out of irritation at Nick, ever so briefly. Anyway. Dropped the cat off at the Tenement for Nick and while he was putting the fuzzbut in his apartment, I talked with Riley and offered to help her gather some information on Seattle. She seemed pretty keen on the suggestion and called me a Genius! :) When Nick came back down, I kinda dragged him off to one side and had a quick talk with him, Felt bad leaving Riley out of that - but I didn't have much choice and that was something I talked at Nick about. I'm sick and tired of keeping Secrets from the few people I trust. Particularly when letting them know wouldn't do any harm...
It really bothers me.
